First and foremost, let's talk Ice Lake. We have cardinal space-core choices here: the Core i5-1035G1 with Intel UHD G1 graphics, or the Core i7-1065G7 with souped-up Iris Plus graphics. In our general initial Frappe Lake execution preview this summer, we found that 10th-gen Ice Lake CPUs cranked verboten impressive results when it comes to multi-effect encryption and encryption tasks, while integrated Iris Plus graphics performance rivaled that of entry-grade dedicated artwork cards such arsenic the Nvidia GeForce MX150.

That aforementioned, Ice Lake's performance improvements will be far to a lesser extent dramatic for lonesome-core twenty-four hour period-to-day activities like network browsing and Office, while the Pith i5's integrated Intel UHD G1 gist is more on par with previous-gen Whisky Lake processors. We'll be curious to see how the i7 and i5 Ice Lake chips perform in this latest HP Spectre x360 13.

Cooling and thermals

So, how did HP manage to couch a more demanding Ice Lake CPU into a smaller racing shell? Number one, have's note of hand that patc the new HP Spectre x360 13 is indeed about an edge in less deep than its predecessor, it's also 2mm thicker, while at the like metre 10 grams lighter.

The latest HP Spectre x360 13 is nearly an inch less low than its predecessor and slimly lighter, although it's also a hair thicker.

In any shell, HP says it's boosted the laptop's air exit height from 2.5mm to 2.8mm while adding an recess trap to the rear vent and upping the issue of heat pipes from one to threesome. There are also more inlet holes under the keyboard, plus a bottom graphite sheet for added heat spending.

Reveal and bezels

Next, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba's startle to the display—or quite, the ultra-slim top and bottom screen bezels, with the top bezel forthwith 5.85mm (versus 17.35mm previously, operating theatre a 66.3-percent simplification), while the rear end bezel is just 11.09mm (compared to 25.82mm in the 2018 worthy), making for an overall 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. That looks good on paper, and in person, the nearly bezel-less CRT screen looks even better.

With its slimmed-down top and tail bezels, the HP Spectre x360 13 achieves a 90 percent screen-to-consistency ratio.

To keep off the HP Spectre x360's web/Atomic number 77 cam in the midget new meridian bezel, HP developed a 2.2mm Iridium webcam, which HP claims is the smallest in the world to support Windows Hullo authentication. HP says their new IR camera has a smaller circumference than a grain of rice, and based along the plexiglass-encased sample distribution I proverb, that sounds about right.

The HP Shade x360's new IR webcam is just 2mm heavy, allowing it to conniption in the 5.85mm top display bezel.

As far as the actual display goes, you get the pick of three: a one-Watt, 400-nit full-HD display, a 400-nit UHD AMOLED display, and (available in January 2020) a 1,000-nit FHD display with HP's Sure View privacy toggle, which is designed to foil prying eyes by greatly reducing the test's viewing angles. For each video display, you'll also get the option of an anti-expression and anti-smudge surface.

Bombardment and design

HP is promising up to 22 hours of barrage life from the HP Spectre x360 13's 60Wr battery, simply that's only with the 400-nit FHD 1-watt panel. If you prefer for the 4K Organic light-emitting diode or the 1,000-nit FHD with the Sure See toggle, you'll have to temper your battery-living expectations consequently. (HP didn't give us battery estimates for the OLED operating theatre Sure View panels.)

The fashionable HP Spectre x360 has the same gem-cut design as its predecessor, on with one of the two Thunderbolt 3 ports sitting in the angled right-prat tree; the office push button sits in the opposite corner.

Small though its step whitethorn be, the hot HP Spectre x360 boasts au fond the same jewel-chopped design and machined CNC aluminum shell as its predecessor, and it also carries o'er some of our best-loved design choices. E.g., the power button still sits indefinite of the rear angled corners, handy for protecting it from unplanned pushes, while incomparable of the two Thunderbolt 3 ports sits connected the other angled corner.

Too returning is a side switch that electrically disables the IR webcam, spell a new holy mic mute button on the keyboard will mute non only the HP Spectre x360's reinforced-in mike, but also the mics along headsets surgery whatever other connected devices. An embedded LED index number lets you know if the mic mute is active.

A switch on the right edge of the HP Spectre x360 13 electrically disables its IR tv camera, while a new mic mute button with an Light-emitting diode indicator sits along the keyboard.

Remembering options will include 8GB or 16GB of DDR4 RAM, which should allow plenty of multitasking headroom, while storage options range from a 256GB solid state drive to a roomy 1TB Intel SSD with 32GB of Optane memory.

On the networking front, the HP Spectre x360 will have WI-Fi 6 and optional gigabit LTE, with 4×4 antennas allowing for simultaneous gigabit WI-Fi and LTE streaming and downloads.

Overall, this latest version of the HP Shade x360 13 looks even much promising than the last one, and I butt't wait to see how it performs with Ice Lake under the hood. We'Ra planning on putting IT on our test bench around the clock time it goes on sale incoming month, soh stay keyed.
